This week for my weekly tips, I wanted to give you guys more of an insight into the way I was raised. My parents tried very hard to keep me off western medicine unless it was a very serious illness. They are not those types of folks that don’t vaccinate their kids but they do think you should hold off on the meds unless you really need them and I agree as well.
With society moving faster and faster now a days, we want instant quick fixes to problems and often that means taking strong pills when we could remedy in other ways if we had a little more patience. So keeping with that thought, they used a lot of essential oils throughout my childhood. As I got older, I used them myself but more for aromatherapy purposes, beauty DIY remedies and even cooking with them! Then a little while back a friend of mine sent me a diffuser kit from Young Living and I was hooked. Now I use essential oils in many parts of my daily life and felt like it was time to share this with you all since you’ve been so supportive of my blog from the start.
One great way to use essential oils is in your cooking! They are great flavor enhancers and can really jazz up any dish!
My Blueberry- Lemon Pancake Recipe:
1 cup pancake mix
1 egg
8 drops lemon essential oil
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup blueberries
1 tbsp oil
Another way I use them is for beauty regimens such as these:
Hair serum for split ends
In a 30 ml glass bottle combine 7 drops Rosewood, 7 drops Sandalwood and 5 tsp Meadowfoam. Shake well and apply a small amount to ends between shampoos. The non-greasy essential oils are absorbed into the hair shaft, making it suitable for all hair types.
Oily hair remedy
Combine 3 drops each Tea Tree, Lime, Rosemary and Ylang Ylang with 1/4 cup baking soda in a cup. Fill with water, stirring the solution. Tilt head back and pour over hair, from the hairline down. Wash hair as normal. Use 2-3 times per week.
Menstrual cramps
Combine 6 drops Clary Sage, Lavender, Rose or Sweet Marjoram with 1/2 oz Evening Primrose. Massage over lower abdomen in a clockwise direction. After application, place a warm, moist hand towel over the abdomen for 10-15 minutes.
Ok guys, now if you think essential oils are girly think again! Here are some helpful uses for men.
Stop shoe odors
Combine 10 drops Cedarwood, 15 drops Eucalyptus, 15 Grapefruit and 1 tsp witch hazel in a 3 oz spray bottle and shake well. Top off bottle with water. Spritz 1-2 sprays into smelly shoes, sneakers or boots. Let dry before you wear.
Soothe a sunburn
Add 3 tsp Avocado oil and 2 tbsp aloe vera gel to a 2 oz squeeze bottle. Shake well then add 15 drops Helichrysum, 15 drops Lavender, 8 drops Chamomile (Roman) and 7 drops Yarrow. Shake and apply generously to the affected areas.
Cuts, scrapes & scratches
Add 2 drops each Tea Tree and Lavender to a 10 ml roller bottle. Fill to the shoulder of the bottle with an EGCO. Clean and roll over affected area.
