There is nothing more delicate than a newborn baby’s skin. We think of a baby’s skin to be smooth, soft and to smell incredible. In reality, it can get really dry, flaky, and over sensitive. On top of normal sensitivities, Alina also has baby eczema. One of the best ways I have found to protect her delicate skin is to use natural and clean baby skincare products.
The main rule of thumb for babies is that they don’t need anything more than water and moisturizer. There is usually no need for extra skincare. Nonetheless, there are times when you might need something extra. In those cases, I make sure to only choose products that are nontoxic and high quality.
Baby Skin Conditions:
- Cradle cap
- Dry skin
- Eczema
- Rashes
- Baby acne
As the colder weather rolls in, Alina’s skin (and mine to be fair) has gotten very dry. We have been giving Alina lukewarm baths more often so her body can soak up the moisture. Then, we lather her in baby cream to lock in the moisture, which I think has been helping a ton! I try to only use fragrance-free formulas because fragrance (even the “natural” ones) can be irritating to sensitive skin!
Since Alina is teething right now, she has been drooling quite a bit. The drool has been causing her skin to be more dry. I use Evereden’s baby face cream to combat the dryness. I love the way the cream is formulated specifically for a baby.
Another tip is to keep YOUR skincare and makeup clean. We touch our babes so often, so we are bound to rub our faces on theirs. I don’t want to risk a skin reaction from any potentially harmful ingredients in my makeup.
Remember, there is a ton of contradictory information out there, so make sure to talk to your pediatrician to ensure you are making the best choice for your little one. Below are some products that I have researched and trust for Alina’s sensitive skin.
