When we first decided to purchase a new build, we knew we wanted to make some strategic upgrades to truly make the house our dream home. One space that quickly became the focus of our efforts was the master bathroom. While the initial layout was functional, it didn’t quite reflect our style or how we envisioned using the space. One thing that particularly bothered us was having two closets in the bathroom. It seemed unnecessary, and we saw an opportunity to create something truly special.
Transforming the Space: The Closet-to-Tub Conversion
The first big change we made was to eliminate the larger of the two closets. Instead of using that space for storage, we converted it into a luxurious area for a standing tub. We kept the linen closet for essential storage, but turning that big closet into a tub area was a game-changer. It gave the bathroom a spa-like feel and instantly elevated the room’s aesthetics.
A Shower Transformation: From Basic to Beautiful
The original shower was a standard fiberglass model with an aluminum railing and a plastic door—nothing about it felt high-end. We knew this was an area that could benefit from a major upgrade. We decided to replace it with a stunning frameless glass shower, complemented by an entire wall clad in Dekton Morpheus from the Cosentino Stone collection.
Why We Chose Dekton Morpheus
Dekton Morpheus isn’t just about looks—it’s a material that offers incredible benefits. This ultra-compact surface is known for its durability, boasting resistance to scratching, staining, and heat. These properties made it an ideal choice for our bathroom, where surfaces need to withstand daily use without losing their luster. Plus, the Morpheus color option from Dekton’s Onirika series offers a striking design with a white base, featuring reflections and delicate veining that add depth and sophistication to the space.
The material’s velvet matte finish brought an added layer of luxury to our shower, making it feel not just like a functional part of our home, but a personal sanctuary. The seamless design and high-performance qualities of Dekton have transformed our bathroom into a space that feels uniquely ours, blending beauty with practical durability.
The Vanity Dilemma: Keeping or Upgrading?
Another aspect of the bathroom that we went back and forth on was the vanity. Initially, we considered keeping the existing one. However, our builder had used the same cabinetry from our kitchen to create a vanity by placing them side by side. While functional, it didn’t offer the custom feel we were aiming for.
Although it felt a bit wasteful, we decided to repurpose the kitchen-style cabinets elsewhere, and ultimately upgrade the vanity. We chose Magnolia Cabinet Co. , a local cabinet maker known for their quality craftsmanship. The turnaround was impressive—we had our new custom cabinets installed in under five weeks from the time we placed the order. The decision to go with Magnolia Cabinet Co. proved to be the right one, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. The new vanity perfectly complements the upgraded shower and tub, bringing our vision for the bathroom to life.
The Final Result: Our Dream Bathroom
These upgrades have completely transformed our master bathroom, making it feel like an entirely different space. What was once a basic, standard bathroom now feels like a luxurious retreat. The addition of the standing tub, the revamped shower with Dekton Morpheus, and the custom vanity have not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal but also changed how we use and enjoy our bathroom every day.
In retrospect, focusing on these key upgrades has allowed us to turn a standard new build into a dream home that truly reflects our style and needs. We couldn’t be happier with the results, and our master bathroom has become one of our favorite places in the entire house.
