With so many workout and diet trends on the market, it’s easy to go from one gym to the next trying everything to stay in shape. But sometimes, the best workout for you is the most obvious and timeless one you can do: running. Running has incredible emotional and physical, short-term and long-term health and social benefits for you. These 3 reasons you should run every day are hard to deny.
1. Running is one of the best anti-aging secrets
When conducting a study on 6,000 adults, a biological researcher named Larry Tucker discovered that the people who aged slower and looked younger were those who engaged in physical exercise throughout their life. Scientifically speaking, running helps us age slower because of telomeres, the markers of aging in the human body became depleted less and slower by those who frequently engaged in physical exercise and at a high activity level. Running, or jogging for just 30-40 minutes a day (kudos if you can do more) for 5+ times per week is considered by the same study as a high activity physical exercise. Makes sense, right? If you run more, you’ll get further in life.
2. Running is one of the fastest ways to lose weight
Any exercise is great. Just getting off your bum and moving is healthier than nothing, but if you are trying to lose weight quickly, running is one of the best exercises out there. Diet and workout trends come and go, but for a classic effective workout that will never fail you: go for a run. Running is one of the fastest ways to burn calories. Many exercises try to target specific “problem areas” but running will get ’em all for you.
3. Running releases endorphins and can make you happier
I know what you might be thinking: running does not make you happier. In fact, running may be something that you dread to do. But running is a cardio exercise that releases endorphins in the brain. Endorphins make a person more energetic, alert and happier, kind of like a natural drug. Often times when it comes to running (or any physical exercise for that matter), the first step is often the hardest, but as time goes on you will become more fit and develop a higher endurance. Many runners will tell you of what they call a “runners high” and this essentially is the feeling of endorphins releasing during a run.
