Whatever your natural eyebrow genes gave you, eyebrows completely change the look of your face. How to achieve well shaped, neatly groomed and full looking brows is important for any look. Eyebrows are particularly important for achieving a natural or no-makeup look. Since it is so beautiful to be minimal in our makeup, it is important to make sure our eyebrows are not over the top, but subtle and pretty. Keeping beautiful brows requires the right kind of maintenance and products to achieve this. Here of some of my favorite tips and products for beautiful brows.
- For barely-there brows:
Though eyebrow trends have changed over the years, full eyebrows are finally back on trend and that is a good thing. It is important to know that over-plucked eyebrows, over time, will stop growing back. So when you remove any eyebrows make sure it is done intentionally, conservatively, and by a professional, if you can. For many of us, though, eyebrows are not one of our God-given gifts. If you are someone who has thin eyebrows that just won’t seem to grow no matter what you do, then don’t be afraid to reach for some help. My favorite products for filling in brows are those that look natural. Make sure your color matches so that people can’t even tell they’re not 100% yours. For eyebrow fillers, you want to use something that is easy to apply and difficult to rub off… you don’t want your eyebrow running away from your face partly through the day. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz comes in a variety of colors, has a thin pencil tip for accuracy and a brush for maintenance.
- For patchy or unruly brows:
Maybe you are someone who has thick eyebrows, but they are not 100% full. If you need a little help on the arch, filling in a patch where there is less hair or maybe a scar, then there are a few things you can do to help. There are also gel products such as Givenchy Mister Brow Groom Universal Brow Setter that is a transparent gel that shapes brows and holds them in place. Soap brows are an old Hollywood trick that makes your eyes look fuller while helping them keep their shape. Simply take a mascara pool, rub it against a bar of soap applying a generous amount of the dry soap to the spool and use it to brush your eyebrows up and out. The soap will effectively hold the hair together and fill out your brows to make them look more full.
- For shapeless brows:
Eyebrows are not twins, and sometimes they don’t even look like sisters. If you have asymmetrical eyebrows, remember that the mirror can be deceiving. Trying to pluck your own brows in the mirror can cause you to make them even less even, so I recommend going to a professional with a better perspective and more experienced. If you are a perfectionist and know what you are doing, then, of course, go for it. Maintenence for good brows also requires you to pluck a few stragglers here and there, and that is fine. If you have never had your brows professionally done, remember to tell the lady to be conservative and not take off too much. Have her go slowly and not make big moves too quickly. After your visit, you will be amazed at the difference symmetrically eyebrows make. I recommend doing threading over waxing and plucking. The reason is, threading provides a more natural look with a smooth process to remove the hairs. It is also far less painful and leaves your face less red than waxing. The beautician is also able to achieve more accuracy this way, giving you a symmetrical eyebrow shape. At home, you can use the soap trick, or fill it in with a product such as Benefits: Precisely pencil. Designed to help you define your brows, their ultra-thin tip is perfect for adding shape where you want it and not where you don’t.
