With the start of 2020 comes a whole new list of trends to keep an eye on. But my favorite thing in recent years has been to keep an eye on the ever-evolving home trends. This is my rundown of the top home decor trends to keep an eye on in 2020.
Home trends of 2020: Textures
This year I’m happy to see rattan and cane prints taking center stage. The new minimalist approach will make statement chairs, doors, cabinets and more the focal point of any room. So take the time to invest in pieces that will draw your eye and I wouldn’t go overboard with more than a couple of pieces in one room. Be selective and thoughtful before you decide what piece in your home would tie in these textures as the Cane esthetic comes at a premium from what I’ve seen.
Also washed cotton, hemp, linen, bamboo, and eucalyptus fabrics are sure to shop up in your favorite home store soon enough. With these eco-fabrics, a beautiful undone mess is a vibe your going for but that’s not to say it should be well thought out.
Home trends of 2020: Elements
There has been a wave of Natural elements and materials coming through the design space since mid last year and I couldn’t be happier about it. I love bringing elements of nature indoors and now I can be “on trend” while doing it. The neotenic furniture trend comes with the resurgence of chunky, organic shaped pieces.
My favorite natural materials used in this trend has been a mix of stone and wood. Whether it’s light washed wood cabinetry perfectly complemented by a cement waterfall counter or large raw pieces of salvaged wood being redesigned into custom one-of-a-kind tables and chairs it’s all so beautiful and refined. I’ve also loved seeing natural stone being used in beautifully refined ways, not just the typical polished marble we are used to.
Home trends of 2020: Colors
As a welcomed change, we see a shift in color palettes from cool stark tones to warm moody ones. It started last year with romantic crushed velvet couches in bright jewel tones and now we even see bold monochrome versions of that has taken over color palettes. Earthy tones become the new neutral with olive greens, amber, mustard yellow, wine, browns, and blues are set to take center stage.
Ivory, bone white and beige are the preferred “white” of the moment. Amber, green and blue jewel-toned glass is sure to take over the decor scene. Vases, glasses, and more are sure to pop up in stores everywhere. Also, warm, moody rooms are taking the place of the ever so bland white wall trend that stuck around like a pesky couch after a cold.

Where to shop
H&M
If you’re like me then you probably spend more time scrolling through the home section of H&M then you do their clothing. H&M has really stepped up their game when it comes to their entire brand but my favorite part of the site is always the home sections. The styling is top-notch for giving you inspo and their price point is not too bad either.
CB2
If I had to pick an overall site that can make my dream home come true it would be CB2. It’s the perfect esthetic for my taste but I’m waiting to buy a home before I start purchasing bigger pieces from them as the price point is a bit higher but you can find great sales multiple times a year. Click here to see what’s on SALE now.
Anthropologie
I think in December 7/10 girls I follow on Instagram took advantage of the mirror sale they had and got themselves the cult favorite mirror that takes at least 3 grown men to move and a large wall to lean on in all its glory. But Anthropologie has some other great pieces like murals for walls, coffee tables, art, great faux/ dried plants, chairs, and frames. This is also one of my favorite places to shop for gift items like this and this.
West elm
If you want an all-around good spot to purchase everything you need for a cohesive home I would head to West Elm. It’s well organized, has amazing sale items ALWAYS, a decent price point a store in most major cities if you’re the type to browse in person and not with your mouse pad.
Room & Board
Some of my favorite bathroom accessories and decor items come from Room & Board but for some reason its never my first place I start my home décoré journey. I love to find pieces here that complement the room’s aesthetic.
Wayfair/ Joss & Main/ All Modern
Wayfair , Joss & Main, and All Modern site have everything you might need in every taste and style. It’s affordable, quick to shop and at a great price. Joss & Main and Wayfair are having huge blowout sales so definitely check out their site before it ends.
Restoration Hardware
Ok, this place needs no introduction. It is one of the crème de la crème of home stores and for good reason. Everything is perfectly thought out and the quality is perfect but the price point might make you cry.
Urban Outfitters
I love Urban Outfitters for sun gift ideas, unique quirky decore pieces or gest room decor. Things I buy most often from them are their bedding, these types of pillows and small rugs. Although, I have been eyeing this chair and cabinet for some time.
Industry West
Industry West is a newer site I’ve been browsing. They have some really great chairs and stools at a middle-tier price point.
