When looking in the mirror in the morning, it can be tempting to scrutinize every little blemish and acne scar and instantly want to reach for your concealer. Though I take pleasure in experimenting with makeup, I do what I can to help my skin look naturally even-toned and smooth all on its own. That’s why I wanted to share this apple cider vinegar miracle facial detox and acne scar treatment.
Though eating foods that promote healthy skin and keeping good skincare habits make a noticeable difference, I’ve found that apple cider vinegar can be a fantastic tool for effectively reducing the appearance of stubborn acne scars and to help make my face a smooth, clear canvas before I even think of picking up a makeup brush.
Benefits of apple cider vinegar for skin
Apple cider vinegar contains lactic, citric, acetic, and succinic acid. These acids act as natural exfoliants, which is why they’re often included in toners to even out skin tone over time. Together, they help your skin shed dead skin cells to reveal new, velvety skin underneath.
Apple cider vinegar also works wonders for preventing acne because its acidic compounds have been proven to kill cutibacterium acnes, the primary acne-causing bacteria. After it kills any lingering bacteria and clears any debris, apple cider vinegar works as a natural astringent to tighten your cleansed pores, leaving them smooth and protected.
DIY apple cider vinegar toner
One of my favorite things about this apple cider vinegar treatment is how easy it is to prepare! I recommend choosing an unfiltered and raw apple cider vinegar like Bragg’s(it’s also organic!). All you need is to do is to make this apple cider vinegar miracle facial detox and acne scar treatment:
- Mix 1-part apple cider vinegar with 4 parts water.
- Apply the mixture to a small area and wait up to 5 minutes to see if you feel any discomfort or irritation from the mixture. If you do, add more water and try again.
- Use a cotton ball to gently apply the mixture all over your face, focusing on your problem areas and avoiding your eyes.
- Leave the mixture on for 20 minutes then rinse it off with warm water.
- Moisturize!
To make a spot treatment, simply increase the concentration of the apple cider vinegar gradually, but never make it stronger than 1-part vinegar to 2-parts water. Apply the mixture with a cotton swab directly onto pimples and acne scars to help those areas heal and to keep infections away!
Add Apple Cider Vinegar to your skincare routine
It’s quick, it’s easy, and it works! Try this treatment 1-4 times a week as needed to start to see the results in your skin tone and texture. Pairing this detox with a diet rich in foods that helps your skin heal naturally will yield the best results for that velvety smooth complexion. So put down the concealer! Let your skin radiate health the natural way.
