Even though my wedding was over a year ago, I’m still completely obsessed with the industry and daydreaming about pretty tablescapes and beautiful white gowns. Because of this, I thought it would be fun to share some of the 2020 wedding trends I’ve taken notice of lately. Anyone else love following along with this stuff? Of course, you should always go with your own personal style and taste for your wedding day, but below are a few trends I’ve spotted on Pinterest and in magazines that I thought were worth taking note of – especially if you’re a bride-to-be!
Simple, relaxed hair
When you look back at vintage weddings of the 1950s and 60s and then again in the 90s and early 2000s, you see that elaborate updos were much more on-trend for weddings. Heading into 2020, though, wedding hair trends are leaning much more in a relaxed, free-flowing direction. Think loose waves and updos with a casual, everyday approach.
Dried flowers
This is probably one of my favorite trends that I’m seeing over and over again. I love flowers at weddings, but the truth is, they can eat up your budget fast! Dried flowers are more affordable and they don’t die so you can sell your arrangements when you’re done if you’d like or even use a few of them as home decor. Also, I feel like beautiful dried flowers are super accessible – you can even find tons of options at Anthropologie (could be great if you’re eloping or doing something really small).
Statement veils
Hailey Bieber set the tone for veils this year when she wore a showstopping cathedral-length veil that was not only massive but was also customized with the phrase “till death do us part” embroidered on it. Whether you want words on your veil or just want it to be dramatic and long, I think it’s a safe bet bridal salons will be stocked and ready after such a huge celebrity did the trend so well.
Non-traditional bridesmaid dresses
You always hear brides say that they want dresses their bridesmaids can wear again, but it often doesn’t quite work out that way. Well, with the non-traditional bridesmaid trend I’ve been seeing, I think bridesmaids might actually be able to get more wear out of their dresses. A lot of brands like BHLDN are categorizing “regular” looking dresses as bridesmaid dresses, or many brides are simply shopping their favorite brands and stores for their bridesmaid dresses instead of getting them from a bridal salon.
Creative and eclectic tablescapes and decor
Traditionally, weddings have a two-toned color palette or a theme that is visible in all the decor and details of the big day. In 2020, you might not see as much of that. Brides are getting creative and more eclectic when it comes to how they decorate their tables, alters and reception space. It’s less matchy, matchy and more of a whole mood happening.
Neutral earthy color and pastel palettes
Along with the more creative decor and tablescapes are more earthy and neutral color palettes, which have actually been trending for a couple of years now. Similar to home decor styles, lots of neutral wedding tables, bridesmaid dresses, and nods to nature.
Then on the flipside, pastels are coming back in a major way – both in fashion and in the wedding world. Look for lavender accessories and flowers, and same goes for baby blue.
Intimate guest lists
If your dream is a huge wedding in a hotel ballroom, that is still completely OK, but lots of brides and grooms are opting for much smaller guest lists this year. From receptions with 50 or fewer people to elopements, which I’ve also seen a lot more over the last few years and I don’t think they’re going away any time soon.
Are you a bride-to-be? I’d love to hear what trends you’re loving! Honestly, I’m a little sad our wedding is over and I don’t get to play with these trends, but I still love reading about them and hearing from girls planning their big day!
