No matter how well your lipstick shade matches your skin, it just isn’t as pretty if you’re not smiling. Caught up in the enchanting details of our latest looks, it can be easy to forget the underlying not-so-secret beauty ingredient we all need to make it all work. At the end of the day, whatever your personal goals and aspirations are for your life; your outfit, makeup, health and fitness routine all play a role in who you are, but they can all fall a short without this one secret ingredient: happiness. Happiness, confidence, gratitude, kindness… they’re all related, and they all make you beautiful inside and out. We all have our own ways of achieving and expressing our own happiness, and fashion is a great way to express your own personal style. The glow of your skin, the shine of your hair, the strength of your physique all tell the story of your own life, experiences and of how positive your life is. It’s important to stop and remember why we try so hard, why we work so diligently, why we should care at all. Beauty starts from the inside, and it gleams outwardly.
- Be selfless
C.S. Lewis said it best when he said “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less”. Self-confidence and personal care is so important. It helps you achieve your own goals, personal happiness and maintain a balanced life. Being selfless towards others plays a huge role in your own self-worth. If you’re ever feeling in a slump, one of the best things you can do is to do something kind for someone else. We are all a part of a greater community, one that looks beyond ourselves. It can be amazing to see how good we feel inside when we do something good for someone else. Kindness is beautiful, especially when it is given unwarranted. Try paying it forward to a stranger in your daily routine, bringing a friend a bouquet of flowers, or involving yourself in a local charity. This kind of attitude will make yourself and others happy.
2. Practice Gratitude
It may be safe to say that gratitude is not inherently natural to anyone, but instead, it’s something that needs to be practiced. Journaling and meditating on good things is a great way to start your day. Think privately about all the wonderful things, people, and opportunities in your life. Practice putting a halt to negative thoughts as soon as they enter your mind, and replace them with something you are thankful for. Gratitude empowers you, removes you from being a victim of your circumstances, and helps you realize how blessed you truly are. It’s been said that is is impossible to be unhappy and thankful at the same time. Try counting all your blessings, and not being happy, it’s rather hard to do!
3. Be Confident
Whatever your job, outfit, or life is like at any given moment, is, do your best, be proud, and own it. It’s been said that comparison is the thief of joy. Instead of believing that you are imperfect, embrace your unique features, quirks, preferences and, dare I say “imperfections”. We all have so much to be confident about. We are all beautiful, unique and capable in our own way. Embrace your authenticity and express your confidence every chance you get, and happiness will intevitable result.
