As you all know I am very diligent when it comes to caring for my skin. This, along with my skin type, has helped me avoid bad acne breakouts as an adult. However, I do still get the occasional pimple and unfortunately I am prone to scaring. I know many others can relate to struggling with acne scars, even as an adult, so I wanted to focus on foods that can help fade these annoying scars.
Including the following foods in your diet can help to diminish the appearance of acne scars:
- Almonds- these, and many other kinds of nuts are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids that help to reduce inflammation and repair the structure of the skin. This repairing helps to reduce the appearance of acne scars, as well as fine lines and wrinkles.
- Tomatoes- there are several benefits of consuming tomatoes. They are high in vitamin A, vitamin C, and lycopene to promote collagen production which fades the appearance of acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles.
- Citrus Fruit- the vitamin C in citrus fruits (lemons, limes, oranges, grapfruits, etc) promotes skin and scar healing. These fruits also have amino acids which promote collagen production for more youthful skin. Lemon juice can even be applied topically to lighten dark spots on the skin.
- Watermelon- while not considered a citrus fruit, watermelon is packed with vitamin C to promotes kin healing and collagen production. It is also very hydrating which also helps the skin heal.
These are a few great examples of foods that can help reduce the appearance of your acne scars, but it is really the vitamins and minerals within the foods that are healing. So, next time you’re in the grocery store check out the labels and look for foods with the following healing ingredients: Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Zinc, and Iron. These will help promote healing while reducing the occurrence and appearance of scars.
